Mt Tawonga Natasha
Mt Tawonga Natasha's Story
Mt Tawonga Natasha (aka Elle which is short for Elegance) was the second Morgan to join our family.
Greg saw Elle as a three month old when we first discovered Morgans in Victoria. He admired her so much that he vowed to watch her grow over time (just to see if he had an eye for a good horse).
Eagleview Skybeau (Calypso), our first Morgan, proved to be exactly what the brochure stated, so, by the time Elle was 18 months old, we had purchased her for Greg. Elle was shown as a two year old at the Australian National Morgan show, with success, and then we brought her home to Queensland.
Elle was started at just 2.5 years old as she was ready for it in mind and body. She was an amazing looking mare under saddle. Rachel Whan was Elle's first Trainer ... here is her story of Elle.
Many years ago now, I was instructing Kathy Lyons on Calypso. They then bought Nepean and Elle (Mt Tawonga Natasha). After Elle had been started she came to me for a couple of weeks for some initial training. This mare was amazing – after 3 weeks she could have gone out and done a Preliminary Dressage test – it was all just so easy for her!
But we took our time with her, consolidating her training. When Elle was 4 Kathy and Greg were deciding what to do – breed or compete?? I asked them (or was it begged?) to let me have a year competing her in dressage, and so we came to be out competing in official dressage.
Well, she won her first competition, qualified for State Championships and even placed at the Championships. This would be a great achievement for any horse, but this was more so for Elle as we would often only have a limited amount of time together in the lead up to competitions – another credit to the Morgans! ... Rachel
Elle was Greg's trail riding horse, a competition horse for me as a very green competitor, and an Official Equestrian Queensland competition horse for Rachel. Elle could do it all - she excelled at every level.
Elle eventually joined Calypso in the brood mare paddock, when we became Wilga Park Morgans and, as it would happen, her two full brothers, Mt Tawonga Nepean and Mt Tawonga Oscar, became our riding geldings.
Today, Elle (Mt Tawonga Natasha) is producing beautiful babies for Wilga Park. Her son by Cortez, Wilga Park Conquistador, has become the founding stallion for Rachel at Hodgson Park Morgans & Equestrian in Western Australia.
We are so very proud of this wonderful mare. She has produced sensible, thinking, athletic, balanced babies who will give 200%. All they ask is your respect, and for you to allow them 49% of the partnership.
